Does Etiquette Matter?

I have often asked myself in this world of Instagram, tactic, Tweet, Facebook, TicToc where we can see every little detail of people's lives does etiquette matter?

I laugh at myself; why you might ask. I knew a man once who was super meticulous I never did anything right. I was always so frustrated, due to the fact I knew things too. I also have an opinion a thought. I also know how to be like that. Little by little, we would argue and voice our options to one another. Why does he want to control everything I kept thinking to myself? I’d try to fight with him and he didn’t allow fighting, I tried arguing, he didn't allow me to raise my voice. Now it’s been years since I have talked to the man and realized some of the lessons learned. In the quietness of the days I realized, it was his workplace. He had the right to be the leader, to impose his standards of doing business as was best for his company and those using his services.

There are many types of people in this world and some will care about etiquette and some will not. Some will have a glamorous social post and some will be casual and show how things are. In this era of being ourselves I know have a greater understanding of his workplace and thoughts. I realize when he was correct in my life and when he was incorrect. Sometimes, as humans, we have not fully matured. We only have the experience of our world. The world according to ..... (I think that was the name of a TV show once). And I realized one thing about myself. I enjoy etiquette. I enjoy being casual at home with family and friends and having workplace etiquette. I prefer professionalism in the workplace and formality rather than a world without rules. I also know and understand the difference if we didn't have rules vs when rules are applied.

I understand that not all people enjoy this therefore my business isn’t for all people. All people are not for my etiquette rules and formality. I'm okay with that reality. I have a deeper respect for that man, however, I have more self-respect cause even in the midst of that man’s way of doing things I know who I am and what is acceptable to me.

Does Etiquette Matter? Yes, and here is why? To help you understand my point of view.

What social on Instagram do you follow? What photographs do you like to look at? That tells you about yourself.

  • The one that has a feel and looks of something well put together? The shows you how to do something better? Make life easier? Help you understand?

  • The one that shows you their sloppy house? How you don’t have to have things perfect all the time?

  • The one that has a balance of both. Some glamours moments, advice, mixed in with real-life moments when trying to do it all oneself doesn’t work.

  • That’s etiquette in behavior, life, and in place settings. It looks beautiful, proper, and elegant. However, sometimes it’s just not applicable due to the fact that we are human, and impossible to be perfect all the time. It causes, stress frustration, and things sometimes just don’t apply.

I’ll keep talking, writing, reading about etiquette and I’ll let you see if it applies to your life. That part is yours’s to decide. If you don't like it don't apply it. In the meantime, I'll keep learning how to be myself. You keep learning how to be yourself.
